PCST Berlin Symposium 2026

5–6 October 2026, Berlin, Germany

Building Knowledge Together: Citizen Science, Communication, and Trust

The international symposium will take place from 5 to 6 October 2026 at the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin.

The event brings together researchers and practitioners to explore how participation in science and science communication shapes trust. At a time when public confidence in science is under close scrutiny, citizen science offers new opportunities for collaboration, dialogue, and shared knowledge production. The symposium provides a forum to examine these developments from theoretical, empirical, and practical perspectives.

Key questions include:

  • Can trust in science be strengthened through participation in research
  • How does communication influence trust within citizen science projects
  • What are effective strategies for fostering transparency, reciprocity, and long term engagement

The symposium is part of the BMFT-funded project Trust in Citizen Science and is supported by the PCST Network. It is organised by the project consortium comprising Technische Universität Braunschweig, Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität Munich, and the Museum für Naturkunde Berlin, funded by the German Ministry of Research, Technology, and Space.

The Museum für Naturkunde Berlin will host the event, providing a setting that reflects the symposium’s focus on collaboration between science and society.
