Yi is Professor in the School of Media and Communication, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and also Editor-in-Chief of the journal Emerging Media: Technology, Industry and Society. She received years of training in Chemistry and Communication fields and obtained her Ph.D. in Communication from University of Connecticut of US. Her research interests are centered on Human-Machine Communication, particularly the psychological and social effects of using artificial intelligence, and employing advanced technology to achieve environmental health outcomes. With more than 60 peer-reviewed articles, she has been listed as the Elsevier highly-cited scholar in China. She has authored three books discussing the impacts of artificial intelligence on human kind. Besides her beloved research work, she also loves outdoor activities especially trekking and mountaineering in high altitude areas (with the Himalayas being her favorite).
