This paper presents some reflections on the creation and development of diverse practices of public communication of science in Colombia. These observations are the result of the doctoral research “Comparative study of the science centers Parque Explora (Medellín) and Cosmo Caixa (Barcelona)” and take into account: – the review and comparison of the national science and technology policies and systems of Colombia and Spain; – the review and analysis of the specific public communication practices of the science of two relevant science museums in Medellín and Barcelona; and, – the conversation with members of the teams of these museums on the approach of the models of public communication of science and the way in which the practices are created and developed to transfer the scientific knowledge to the public. In addition, some observations are made about how the Colombian practices of public communication in science try to contribute to the social appropriation of scientific knowledge for the solution of specific problems.
