PCST Symposium Japan 2025 – Registration and abstract submission open

Join us in Tokyo from 11 to 13 November 2025 at the Earth-Life Science Institute (ELSI) for the PCST Symposium Japan 2025, organised by the Japan SciCom Forum (JSF).

This international event will explore the strategic development of science communication in Asia, with a focus on non-Western contexts and building sustainable local ecosystems.

Key topics include professionalising science communication, enhancing education and training, and bridging research and practice. While the focus is on Japan and Asia, participants from all regions are welcome to share ideas and adapt global practices to local needs.

Symposium themes

Education and Training—How can we establish formal and informal education and training programmes in Asia to professionalise science communication?

  • Core Teaching Competencies: Defining essential skills and knowledge areas for professional science communicators.
  • Beyond Science Academia: Expanding training through collaborations with industry, museums, and cultural institutions.
  • Global Models and Studies: Drawing lessons from international models and adapting them to non-Western settings.
  • AI and Digital Skills: Integrating digital tools and AI to support learning and professional development.

Science and Society—How can we bridge the gap between science communication research and practice to engage with diverse audiences?

  • Integrating Research into Practice: Applying research insights to real-world contexts, including policy development.
  • Aligning Goals with Public Needs: Addressing multilingualism, cultural nuances, and local expectations in communication strategies.
  • Co-Creation in Science Communication: Encouraging collaboration among researchers, communities, and policymakers.
  • Measuring and Enhancing Impact: Evaluating science communication initiatives and their influence on public discourse.
