A message from the new PCST President: Welcoming the 2025–2027 Scientific Committee

12 June 2025

Dear PCST community,

For those of you who joined us in Aberdeen for the PCST 2025 conference — thank you. I hope you’ve had a chance to catch your breath after what was a truly rich and inspiring gathering. The theme Tensions, Traditions and Transitions captured the spirit of our time together and of the field more broadly — and, for me, it also reflected the unique value of our PCST community: a space where we grapple with complex issues, imagine bold futures, and nurture long-standing traditions of care and respect.

I’m honoured and humbled to take up the role of President of PCST for the 2025–2027 term. Thank you to the Scientific Committee for placing their trust in me. I’m very pleased to be joined by a committed and talented leadership team:

Together, we will work alongside an incredible group of colleagues on the Scientific Committee:

Germana Barata, Massimiano Bucchi, Alexandra Borissova Saleh, Autumn Brown, Anfan Chen, Anne Dijkstra, Heather Doran, Declan Fahy, Lars Guenther, Ana Godinho, Miguel Garcia-Guerrero, Shao-Jie (Nils) Jhou, Siddharth Kankaria, Kei Kano, Joan Leach, Nan Li, Diogo Lopes de Oliveira, Sandra Murriello, Yi Mou, Daniela Martin, Mark Ivan Roblas, Zhaozhang Sun, Sharon Tshipa, Guoyan (Ruby) Wang, Hao Xin, and Hiromi Yokoyama.

As we look ahead, I also want to take a moment to thank those whose terms on the committee have come to an end. My heartfelt thanks go to Martin Bauer, Lloyd Davis, Marlit Hayslett, A.P. Jayaraman, Carolina Llorente, Ana Claudia Nepote, Luz Helena Oviedo, Yu-Yen Pan, Michelle Riedlinger, Tara Roberson, Melanie Smallman, Maarten van der Sanden — and especially to Sook-kyoung Cho, who has led PCST with vision and energy over the past two years as President. Under her leadership, PCST strengthened its presence in Asia and introduced the PCST Award for the Advancement of Science Communication as a Professional Field.

Warm congratulations to Bruce Lewenstein, the inaugural recipient of the PCST Award.

As we turn towards the future, I’m excited about the journey ahead. We’ll continue to build momentum through upcoming symposia in Tokyo, Dubai, and Berlin — and, of course, PCST 2027 in Shanghai.

In my term as President, there are three areas I will prioritise:

  1. Member benefits – exploring how we can offer greater value to our members and foster more opportunities for collaboration and engagement.
  2. Structure and governance – putting in place the legal, financial, and operational frameworks needed to support a sustainable and resilient organisation.
  3. Field leadership – ensuring that PCST remains at the forefront of shaping science communication as an academic field, a professional practice, and a global conversation.

I look forward to working with all of you over the next two years and to continuing to grow this amazing global community. If you’re not already, please subscribe to the PCST mailing list and keep an eye on our website for updates, opportunities, and events.

Warm wishes,
Fabien Medvecky
