PCST is growing up – A message from PCST President Jenni Metcalfe

Better services mean higher costs, and the last meeting of the Scientific Committee decided to increase the cost of membership fees for those from wealthier countries. This is the first increase in seven years.

9 December 2021 – Our panellists discuss how trust and mistrust is constructed in science, by scientists, with scientific institutions and by the public. 

29 October 2021 – During this informal webinar, the editors briefly presented issues about science communication research and publishing that are on their minds.

26 October 2021 – An inclusive history of science communication is the topic of a Lifeology flashcard course that takes us on a journey back in time to explore how science was shared and discussed around the world.

27 September 2021 – The purpose of this webinar was to explore the meanings and uses of ‘scientific culture’, and the significant points of convergence and divergence around this concept.

9 September 2021 – The COVID-19 pandemic challenged all sectors of society. Science communication teaching was also badly affected.

The Summary of the PCST 2021 Conference was compiled by Guoyan Wang and her doctoral student Lingfei Wang from the Science Communication Research Centre at Soochow University.

Great news! Conference papers for the Public Communication of Science and Technology 2020 + 1 virtual conference held from 24 to 27 May 2021 can now be accessed by everyone (registered or not) from 1 August 2021.

Welcome to your weekly roundup of science communication news and events. There’s been a big influx of events and conferences in the SciCommer Diary this week. June is looking busy!

In his president’s address to the PCST2020+1 conference, Brian Trench asked what it means to be global or take a global view. He urged greater openness in science communication to linguistic diversity.

PCST 2020+1 will go ahead in May 2021 as a virtual  global conference. PCST 2023 will be in Rotterdam in April 2023. PCST 2025 will be in Aberdeen in May 2025.

20 April 2021 – This webinar introduces students of science communication to the world and words of science communication.

17 March 2021 – Science communicators have adapted to the global pandemic in creative ways by using new online formats and platforms. In this webinar, five panellists spoke about new ways to engage audiences by going digital.
